Dear Parliamentarians,

You will be debating today on a number of issues and from time to time "implement the result" and "respect democracy" will be said. Since there seems to be some confusion around these terms, I've written this helpful guide.
1. In the days of the monarchy, people ruled by accident of birth. The job came with a duty to the country and its people.
2. Some monarchs didn’t live up to their duties and this tended to result in wars or revolutions. Democracy was seen as a solution to this. Our leaders come from us, they are hired and fired by us, and we make the rules so we follow the rules.

This is a message to the people who have been side-lined in this debate, and by that I mean the 28% of you who didn’t vote.

Or, as some people consider you: The 0%.
Speaking personally, there was a time in my life when I had not voted more times than I had voted, and I still don’t dismiss the idea that there will be elections where I choose not to vote again.
The tribalism in party politics often puts me off, and I've often just wanted to get on with my life and let the people who like to get involved with politics get on with it.

Seems to me that PM is making it conditional on having to get through phase 1 that her general message it is
price she is prepared to pay and that the message of her team is that “this is national interest above personal interest”

A majority in this parliament needs to get to 320. It's been repeated so often that it has become a truth—that there is a majority for a soft Brexit in parliament.

Here's why that's almost certainly not the case.

Let's start with the Labour Party (245 MPs).

Soft Brexit is the position of the leadership (see JC letter to TM 6/2).

But there are at least 60 strong backers of a people's vote in the PLP & maybe 5 who want a harder Brexit.

So Labour brings max 180 MPs to soft Brexit.

Well, Scotland voted to Remain, and yesterday Sturgeon said: "preferably asking for a longer extension to put the issue back to voters".

So don't count on any SNP support for soft Brexit

#Brexit supporters like me hold @realDonaldTrump in profound contempt. We know he’s a liar. He’s offered the U.K. *zero* special trade deals. He’s done nothing but insult the Queen.

If ever there was an argument for pressing pause and taking Tusk’s long extension, ERG, its this.
With a year, we can negotiate a better version of EFTA. Freedom of movement *without a job* can be eliminated. Common Market 2 solves many problems. #DelayBrexit
By the way, @realDonaldTrump, threatening our EU friends and allies like @campaignforleo and Ireland is totally unacceptable. It’s not what #Brexit supporters want or stand for. The ERG will find it as ugly as Remain do. Nobody believes you will do anything for the U.K.

1. The one argument or no deal #Brexit that I can respect is a need for a complete political clear out but that must also include the ERG scumbags - and there is a real danger with this line of thinking that actually it won't make any difference.
2. The problem is as much to do with our top down culture of politics where Westminster continues to set the agenda and media falls into line - and so do all of you. The no deal propaganda campaign starts in the bowels of the tory right apparatus. Establishment as it gets.
3. There is no way our political class is ever going to admit they are the source of our problems thus we cannot expect them to resolve the problems - nor will they get out of the way voluntarily. They will continue to play their dimal tribal games.

1. If there were another in/our referendum I probably wouldn't bother voting for one reason... The debate has become utterly polarised between the two extremes. It wouldn't even be about #Brexit anymore. Thread...
2. All this toryboy waffle about "fwee twade" is a relatively new addition to the Eurosceptic necronomicon. Most of it appeared shortly before the referendum and didn;t develop until a while after. This is because the ERG are not Brexiters.
3. I know this because I was there at the beginning of Ukip, when meetings were Alan Sked and Nigel Farage speaking to an empty village hall, with an audience of two old men in colonial blazers and an old farting labrador. Old school euroscepticism was never about trade.

It's time to state some home truths, this is a mess, and it's only going to get messier. Leaver or Remainer, it's time to step back and recognise there's only one way out - Remain
2) firstly, the reality is there is little love for #Brexit left in the country. Maybe 35% of the country max still actively crave it, the rest are either resigned to it or hate it.

"Just get on with it" is a brief step from "just make it go away"
3) even #BBCqt, that great fortress of Leave support, is changing. Hartley-Brewer's cry of "we've had a people's vote!" would normally guarantee a whoop & a cheer, not any more, it got barely a ripple
