/ I think we should open a discussion on the best structure for #Phase2. Let’s start with the biggest difference between 2019 and 2017. Every Republican is now reading from the same playbook.
/ That’s right. Of all the benefits of a #CleanBillOfHealth the biggest regarding #Phase2 is that now all Republicans know Trump Russia was BS. Yes it was always obvious but for some Republicans they couldn’t afford Mueller undercutting Trump.
/ Having Mueller in the rear view mirror is a huge benefit as we move forward. The last thing we need is a Republican questioning the process. Party unity is a crucial component in successfully executing #Phase2.
/ What have we seen over the weekend? Giuliani and Graham are singing the same tune, a two pronged approach. DOJ action combined with rigorous oversight from the Senate Judiciary Committee. And although he can’t guarantee what Barr will do, Graham seemed confident Barr will act.
/ So that brings us to the real point of this thread, to explore a critical question. How should DOJ structure action against the corrupt actors in the DOJ/FBI?
/ There are a myriad of considerations involved in answering this question. One is speed. What’s better, sudden indictments for everyone or a more methodical and deliberate process?
/ As much as I wish this shit would’ve been done long ago I think there are significant negatives to sudden mass action. The biggest? The idea that this was all premeditated and predated Barr. Politically, this would work against Barr.
/ I realize some do not agree but I interpret Huber role as review and advisory. Why? It’s in the letter that Sessions sent to Huber. He can recommend new investigations, expanding existing ones or whether matters “merit the appointment of a Special Counsel.”
/ The letter doesn’t answer whether Barr will have DOJ directly prosecute or appoint a Special Counsel. He will get Huber’s recommendations and make decisions. It’s possible Huber made previous recommendations but I doubt he has. He was a timing mechanism. A table setter.
/ Lets look at another aspect. Regardless of who prosecutes, prosecutorial decisions will be made. Inevitably we will dislike and disagree with some of the decisions. So you think the right will suddenly trust DOJ? Trust that “deep state” didn’t influence and protect people?
/ Point is that one of the most important aspects of a Special Counsel is the reporting mechanism. Precident is set. A full report will be released. What will be the most important question: Were there any examples of DOJ blocking an action by the Special Counsel?
/ Without a Special Counsel all you will get are certain people prosecuted with others left alone and no explanation about why or what happened. Whether you believe me or not, that will be extremely frustrating and leave the blanks to be filled in by the deep state nutters.
/ The last aspect that is the biggest key to the success of #Phase2 is “who” is appointed Special Counsel. It truly needs to be someone SPECIAL. They need to have a reputation that is beyond reproach while not being connected to DC. Getting the appointment right is everything.
/ Barr is perfectly positioned to know who to pick. He is the lawyer’s lawyer. He knows everyone. My guess is that he already has the person in mind. They are going to strike fear into DC because it will be clear they will equally apply the law with no regard to anything else.
/ OK, I realize many of you disagree. That’s ok. As I said about #CleanBillOfHealth, we soon will know. Truth is if Huber does a job and prosecutes the corrupt actors I’m going to be happy. I just wanted to lay out the aspects involved and my view of the benefit of a S.C. /end
