Although theory is important, it's not the only thing. It's important to actually get basic theory but then to focus on the music. That means spending time listening & playing the songs.

Well, time to listen to the music.
Scales & modes are important... but they are the ALPHABETS of jazz.
To really learn jazz, you gotta learn the sentences. That means playing great sounding jazz guitar licks. Get these licks (jazz melodies) under your fingers until they flow!
Are you arguing about gear more than listening & playing the music?
Maybe that might be why your learning is slower than you expect.
Forums are great for community & information but the REAL improvement happens on your guitar.
Although you can be self-taught (and many have), many guitarists benefit from getting insights and guidance from jazz guitar teachers & mentors.
