New Trump comments about Canada last night: "They knock the hell out of us on trade, and they have been doing it for a long time, and they're very tough, and they're not at all nice about that situation. But we've made them nice. We’ve made them nice." thestar.com/news/world/201…
Last year, I obtained Trump remarks in which he claimed he got Trudeau to make concessions by threateningly displaying "a picture" of an Oshawa-made Chevy Impala.

In yesterday's telling, he did the threatening by displaying..."a little plastic car."
Trump Translation: He's saying that although Canada has a reputation for niceness, it has for years taken advantage of the U.S. on trade and thus wasn't nice in that respect, until he pressured/threatened Canada into submission ("made them nice").

As talks falter over the removal of Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs, the Canadian government is preparing to announce retaliatory tariffs on additional U.S. products. The ambassador says they could include pork, wine, apples and ethanol: thestar.com/content/thesta…
The Mexican government is also threatening additional retaliatory tariffs. Trump, self-described “tariff man,” has been unwilling to budge to Canada’s satisfaction on his tariffs, and the Canadian ambassador says there are no current talks.
The ambassador described the coming additional tariffs benignly, saying Canada just wants to make up the tariff revenue it has lost though the exemptions it has granted to particular importers. But Freeland said Canada wants to have an “even greater impact” on the US.

Per the pool reporter, Trump has resumed his dishonesty about family separation, saying "I'm the one who stopped it" while not acknowledging he had started the policy he later stopped.
Trump, per the pool reporter: "You know it. We all know it. I'm the one who stopped it. President Obama had child separation." Obama's administration separated migrant families under very limited circumstances. Trump's made separation the norm. Then, yes, it eventually stopped.
This is a more egregious version of his recent claims about the Special Olympics and the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. He does an unpopular thing, then touts himself as a savior for abandoning the unpopular thing while not acknowledging it was his thing in the first place.

Non-rhetorical question: does anyone have any idea what the president was talking about here? (I am looking for actual helpful answers, not like "this makes no sense wow")
Customs and Border Protection gave me an answer: 35 gates are being installed. Some of the 35 spots currently have openings big enough to drive at least a Tahoe through, CBP spokesman says, though not all.
