/ Strategic mistakes 101 - I'm explaining a few concepts in homeopathic dose, every day. Observe the tweet below:
/ Political strategy is constructed according to the same methodology any scientific/technological project adopts: it starts with the top goal. Usually, the top goal is the name of the project. Beyond the top goal are principles. Below them is a hierarchy of sub-level goals.
/ The top goal for the American 2020 presidential election is to defeat the GOP. This top goal is subordinated to general principles such as ensuring democratic institutional continuity in the USA.
/ Even beyond are things such as democracy and the world order and international relations. But the top goal is to defeat the GOP. That means anything can and should be done to ensure that it happens.
/ Are there limits to "the ends justify the means?". Yes, but they are far less than you imagine. For example, we can make an alliance with organizations or powerful actors that will be an enemy the day after we accomplish the top goal. Example: @TheDemocrats anti-abortionists.
/ Any, absolutely any democratic candidate, once selected at the primaries, must not only be voted on: we must put our greatest effort and work to ensure that. Any individual likes or dislikes is irrelevant. Individuals are irrelevant unless they are political "actors".
/ The bost in tweet #1 of this thread illustrates a behavior that must be strongly rejected. It is irrational and naive. If sufficiently represented on the base, it may lead to top goal failure. It that happens, it is not only the USA's fate that is at stake.
/ The cascade of reactions across the world is beyond your short-sighted comprehension. I can assure you, though, that is comes pretty close to Hitler's dream of a long-term totalitarian dystopia.
Here's an example, kindly provided by the author of the tweet in the first item of this thread, of a strategic fallacy. Please go to #2 for an explanation of the top level goal and why this algorithm is flawed.
