What you call salary is that bribe they pay you to forget about your dreams. ⛱
So much tantrums followed this tweet in an attempt to force a thread but I have fought against this. We tell ourselves many lies like “my salary is funding my dreams” - how much is your logistics to work, rent, feeding allowance and instagram accessory expenses? What is left? 🤔
Unless your dreams come so cheap, if the surplus after taking out your living expenses can fund your dreams you won’t retain a job or depend on it longer than 5years. My brothers from SE don’t do apprenticeship for more than this period before opening their own shop.
Several categories of defenders have demonstrated their displeasure, disagreement and reservations either for themselves or to reinforce their position as a boss keeping folks who believe they will one day be richer than their boss from their salaries.
Indeed we all need a job at some point in life. It prepares you or position you to think deep about finding life work. Until you find a life work which benefits not just you in terms of fulfillment but also your society in terms of impact and influence, happiness is far fetched.
Some even reduced their reinforced social constructs to tweets by saying earning salary is their dream just like the Israelites thought working as slaves in Egypt is their God given purpose. Please stop lying to yourself. No one is born a slave.
Oh “everyone is not born to be an entrepreneur” please what makes you feel all life purpose is about entrepreneurship? Dig deeper and swim away from the shallow children section of the pool of wisdom.
What is common here as illustrated are excuses from Hell that keeps the chains on. People never wish to get off the chains of slavery. The bread from Egypt always leave a taste in the mouth you won’t want to live without.
The unknown will always be feared but nothing grows in the comfort zone. To grow you must take risk and do what makes your heart flutters. Do that which you fear the most. That is where your destiny lies. Or you can keep lying to yourself like most in the thread.
For the brief years I “worked at a job” I made the job into a work by adding passion and fun. We made so much progress and all the hundreds of staffers under me never wish to miss work even if they were dying. Even at that I recognize the fact that I won’t be there for long.
That leap of faith is necessary for Growth. No matter how huge your salary is, it is still a chain and a burden that prevents your heart from fluttering. It makes you a machine. You were made to make Art in diversity & freedom. Consider living.
This is Howe’s not speaking to those newly on a job fresh from school and new to the real world. It speaks more to those waking up to a job they hate but manage for the salary sake. You are doing your heart a disservice. There is a vision inside of you. Change your circle.
Salaries are often times than most not seen as a wage for labor but as anything we hope to acquire in exchange. For a thug on the clock he doesn’t see the people he hurt as humans but as a portal to his vanities. Same for cubicle huggers, the money is another item on the list.
