Chooseco is why there is no Choose Your Own Adventure or Gamebook minidoc in GET LAMP. Even though there were 8 great interviews to support them.
The story of Chooseco and how they are Galaxy-sized shitboxes is long and winding and someone should write that story. But whoever you are, good luck, because you will be sued.
Attempting to get an interview with the head of chooseco was a big pain in the ass, with a demand I explain my goals, etc. They said they were verrrrry busy. So I submitted all my requests. Weeks later they agreed and scheduled.
I got to the offices in Vermont and waited. And waited. And waited in the rain.
After about, oh, 3 hours of soaking in the rain, and leaving 3 messages, I gave up and drove the 4 hours home.

So yeah, eventually I got a mail explaining some reason I got to do a song and dance and still lose a day and drive 250 miles, but the result was, no interview. This was before I found all the suing and the claims and the rest.
Anyway. Don't call anything at all, anything a Choose Your Own Adventure. They own it and the surviving owners will sue you.
Call something else, something else really offensive, like a sex position or a terrible situation, a choose your own adventure. Do that.
Anyway, real shame about the no GET LAMP flexible narrative minidoc never seeing the light of day. Lots of good people. I thank all of them for being involved and not being, I mean, universe swallowing bastards.

I can hear you saying "Jason, that is such an unfair hit. They're just a busy and innovating publisher. It's not like they waited for the trademark for CYOA to expire in the 2000s, snapped it up, and renamed themselves from Vermont Crossroads to Chooseco"
