So, I have 27,000 fine folks or identifying-as-folks in my twitter follower count. The vast, vast, vast majority of you will not be affected by this specific drama one way or another. Regardless, I'm taking it as a teaching moment because I think there's something to be learned.
I've deleted a tweet I wrote endorsing a product. I mean, big deal, right? I was neither paid or compensated for the endorsement, it wasn't solicited - I just really appreciate good engineering, especially for a vanishingly small problem requiring ridiculously intense tools.
The actual technical accomplishment is truly a monument to engineering and a well-regarded arrival for a tiny, tiny audience. Oh, but what could the problem be.

So, let's talk front-door approach to solving the being Red Screen of Death'd by Google. You get smacked by the Google Ruler, and you have to 1. Get a Google account (I have one) and then 2. Go to the "Search Console" where you can then argue with them as to your fate. #gphiles
I get this. The warlord does not like something you're doing, you gotta show up at the camp, kiss the ring, bring gifts, and approach, hat in hand, and ask them could you please not get all your crops and livestock killed because you kind of need the crops and livestock.
Once you're walking around in the Google Palace, you essentially get the free version of Google Analytics (a Google Product you can pay for) and also, oh, a security report, i.e. "Here is why we are blocking your entire domain."

So, listen. I run TEXTFILES.COM (it's in my handle) and the site has been around for over 20 years. This month, Google pushed out a declaration that my site is "unsafe" and as a result a whole slew of browsers now put up a red screen and warn you to not visit.
I know why they're doing this. I also know I'm not going to randomly change my 20 years plus website until Google gets thoroughly embarassed as to how they do this, what they do, and why they're working really hard to ruin the WWW in the name of various made-up virtues.
All of these tweets I'm doing about this issue, which is frankly boring if you're not in certain realms, will have the hashtag #gphiles, so mute that tag if you don't want those tweets from me. Thanks.
