So Mitch McConnell is saying he wants the Senate to be a "firewall." I'll tell you what the most anti-democratic politician in a generation is a firewall for. Here's a sampling of the bills the House has passed this year that he won't bring up for a vote:
McConnell is blocking HR1, For the People Act.

What it does: To expand Americans' access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, and strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and for other purposes.
McConnell is blocking HR7, Paycheck Fairness Act.

What it does: Provides more effective remedies to victims of discrimination in the payment of wages on the basis of sex, and for other purposes.
McConnell is blocking HR8, Bipartisan Background Checks Act.

What it does: Requires a background check for every firearm sale.
McConnell is blocking HR1644, Save the Internet Act.

What it does: Restores the open internet order, i.e. #NetNeutrality, of the Federal Communications Commission.
McConnell is blocking HR1585, Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act.

What it does: Reauthorizes the Violence Against Women Act of 1994, which has been renewed multiple times over the years but was allowed to expire earlier this year.
McConnell is blocking HR221, Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism Act.

What it does: Amends the State Department Basic Authorities Act of 1956 to monitor and combat anti-Semitism globally, and for other purposes.
McConnell is blocking HR1957, Taxpayer First Act.

What it does: Amends the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to modernize and improve the Internal Revenue Service, and for other purposes.
McConnell is blocking HR450, Preventing Crimes Against Veterans Act.

What it does: Amends title 18, United States Code, to provide an additional tool to prevent certain frauds against veterans, and for other purposes.
This list is not comprehensive, by the way. You can see all the bills that the House has passed at GovTrack -->…
McConnell is blocking a lot of important legislation, passed by the Democratic majority in the House, that would make our country safer and help a lot of citizens get the help they need.

Let's be clear about the "firewall" that McConnell is actually putting up.
