So let me explain why changing your gender marker is so important to transgender people. You don't need to particularly agree with me, but let me just tell you the reality of what it's done for my life.
When I came to understand that I was transgender, I effectively reached this point where I understood that if I didn't change certain things, I would never be able to have the quality of life I wanted.
When I was younger, most stories of trans people we're stories of then transitioning to disappear. People being able to transition and seamlessly mesh into society without being noticed. Of course this relied a lot on a trans person's ability to look cis and be accepted.
