A huge amount of credit to the amazing people of @HealthAVIA and to @CHIDavidSmith for their leadership and vision and really hard work to carry this out and lead this effort.
This will have a big impact in communities like those in rural Tennessee and Virginia where @BalladHealth and leaders like @alevine014 are embracing the challenges in those communities head on.

BREAKING: @CMSGov announced a new approach to getting more ppl on Medicare access to primary care and that payments rewards docs who keep people healthy.

It extends work that began in prior administrations, including ours. I have issued the statement of support below.
When I ran CMS one of the hardest and most important obligations is to ensure that the programs extends to those with the least means.

From what I hear there are provisions for dual eligible beneficiaries & payment adjustment for sicker populations. 2/
To the contrary, the Administration has taken a very ideological view of Medicaid by defining the “deserving” and “underserving” poor.

This deeply harms the already challenging circumstances many lower income people face when seeking only to take care of themselves. 3/

I spoke with @HouseDemocrats about health care today.

It begins here 👇: the number one call to the American Cancer Society Hotline is “I can’t afford to have cancer.” In fact, 40% of people spend their life savings within 2 years of diagnosis.

The Affordable Care Act did a lot of good for a lot of people.

It would have been better if we did what we had always done. Put in follow on legislation to improve the parts that needed it. Instead small weaknesses were exploited into bigger issues by Republicans. But...
Now that @HouseDemocrats are in charge, they put together a bill to improve ACA that Rs should have 3 years ago.

For a family of 4, premiums would be cut in half. Roughly five million more would get insurance.
And no one would pay more than 10% of income.

This is me puzzled.

I’m spending the week in DC. In between a bunch of meetings on what the hell is going on in health policy I’m trying to figure out what the Republican “health care plan” actually is. 1/
You see Trump says we will have an amazing plan and a,axing people are working on it.

Then he says . . . Just wait til after the election.

Meanwhile the chorus from many Republicans is “we need a plan.”

They have one. 3/

2/ GOP candidates are running for office saying that they support protections for people with pre-existing conditions, but lawsuits, administrative actions, and legislation supported by these candidates could lead to these individuals being denied coverage or charged more.
3/ Beyond lawsuits and votes that explicitly undermined these protections, candidates do not support pre-existing condition protections if they refuse to endorse the policy levers that make these protections possible: guaranteed issue, community rating, and EHBs.
