BREAKING: @CMSGov announced a new approach to getting more ppl on Medicare access to primary care and that payments rewards docs who keep people healthy.

It extends work that began in prior administrations, including ours. I have issued the statement of support below.
When I ran CMS one of the hardest and most important obligations is to ensure that the programs extends to those with the least means.

From what I hear there are provisions for dual eligible beneficiaries & payment adjustment for sicker populations. 2/
To the contrary, the Administration has taken a very ideological view of Medicaid by defining the “deserving” and “underserving” poor.

This deeply harms the already challenging circumstances many lower income people face when seeking only to take care of themselves. 3/
Every good change to the program comes with unintended consequences and challenges.

The @CMSGov workforce should continue its track record of listening & learning and making quick improvements as needed. 4/
In the end, every American deserves a regular source of care regardless of who they are, what they look like, or where they live. While there are many ways to get there, we should not rest until everyone can rest easy that paying for it won’t get in the way of keeping well. /end
