UPDATE: After viewing this video, all charges against Chris were dismissed in “interests of justice” by @BrooklynDA. Now knowing what they did & how they lied, the office should decline to prosecute any arrests brought by these officers & review all current & past prosecutions.
My colleague @mk_esq worked so hard on behalf of this young man. Chris was also so brave. For coming forward. Putting his name out there despite what he knew these officers were capable of. They should not be allowed to patrol the streets. Should not be armed. Should be fired.
We cant expect NYPD to take adequate action. But prosecutors have the power to render bad officers powerless. By saying “no” to any arrests that they are a part of w/ *no exception* theyll be unable to work. Which means they’ll be unable to hurt or lie any more people into court.
I say “no exception” bc often police will put “clean” officers as the “arresting officer” to protect the arrest from cops on the team w/ bad records. Prosecutors all too often go along w/ charade. Or they’ll acknowledge prior bad acts, but claim nothing wrong w/ current arrest.
A policy of declining to prosecute arrests involving officers w/ records of misconduct, violence, credibility issues sends a critical & strong message to police & police departments. We will not tolerate abuse of power. Accountability exists. Protect & serve. Don’t attack & lie.
