Thread: Do you want to understand how prevalent the #antisemitism that appeared in the NYT cartoon is? I received an oped submission a few weeks ago that implied precisely what the cartoon does. It claimed that US foreign policy is "controlled" by Netanyahu via Kushner.
This submission openly argued there was a conspiracy in which Kushner is controlled by Netanyahu and therefore Trump is somehow controlled by Netanyahu. This wasn't some wacko writing this, but someone ostensibly respectable.
The article calimed the US was a "puppet-show" and that "America is no longer in charge" and asked "who is doing the string-pulling," then claiming that Israel is. And this was not a fringe submission. They thought it was ok to write this nonsense with no evidence of course
The cartoon at the NYT implies the US President is not only secretly Jewish, but that he is led "blindly" by Israel and Netanyahu. It's an attempt to shift all blame for US decisions onto Israel. I've seen rising rhetoric about this.
The Iranian regime has read into this and created a whole hashtag that their foreign minister uses to try to make it seem US policy is controlled by Israel jpost.com/Middle-East/Za…
This kind of conspiracy theory isn't just in the margins, it is becoming more mainstream. In 2017 a well known commentator even tweeted an article with a similar conspiracy

Thread: I vowed to write an article about how focus on "ISIS brides" and western ISIS members is tied up in legacies of colonial-era concepts, that tend to humanize western perpetrators while ignoring or even dehumanizing victims from the region, here:

I argue that there are several parallels also to the Nazi era when perpetrators received short sentences or were not prosecuted and victims were ignored. Also noting that Jewish victims were too often treated as Yazidi survivors have been.
I also assert that this concept of being above the law in Syria or Iraq is rooted in the colonial-era contracts that European powers signed with the Ottoman Empire, which were called “capitulations" to prevent citizens from being under local laws.

Thread: There seem to have been so many foreign ISIS members in Baghuz area that this was actually a kind of western colony on the Euphrates. Not since the 1960s era of decolonization have so many had to flee as indigenous people take back the land from #ISIScrimes
Foreign members of ISIS were sometimes middle class, many of them participated in the most cruel abuses that ISIS inflicted and they viewed joining ISIS as a kind of colonia-crusade to displace and steal the land of people in Syria and Iraq and genocide locals to replace them.
The war against ISIS has been fundamentally an anti-colonial struggle by people from Iraq and Syria who, galvanized by zeal, decided they will not allow 50,000 people from all over the world to destroy their countries, Though poor, they defeated these ISIS extremists with help

-had grenades and firearms but not prosecuted

This fits the model of previous incidents with the nexus of criminal-terror perpetrators who are always known to security services but nevertheless have easy access to ostensibly illegal firearms and weapons
Despite being monitored and even being involved in serious violent crimes with illegal weapons the perpetrators never seem to receive anything but short sentences in the past and continue on their trajectory toward more serious incidents

Yesterday we saw a horrendous attack on a Synagogue in San Diego in which Lori Kaye (BDE) was senselessly murdered by a gunman and 3 others wounded. This is not the first nor sadly will it be the last attack on one of our places of worship.
Shortly before y'days attack in San Diego @NudderingNudnik wrote a thread about a credible risk to his own shul here in the UK that was considered of such seriousness that the police felt the need for a high profile presence during the Shabbat service.

You might be thinking these incidents happen in isolation or that the threat to us is minimal or exaggerated.

Sadly that might have been true a few years ago, it is not now!

A thread with some thoughts before Yom Kippur: I’m blessed to worship at a shul with a fantastic rabbi who always inspires. A few weeks ago, his sermon touched on the idea of Yom Kippur (and other peak moments in religion and in life)
He started by telling of a parable that is recorded in jewish tradition. A Jewish man became imprisoned. His jailor told him he could choose one day a year to be free
So the man writes to every rabbi he knows. He asks them: what day am I to choose? Should I say Yom Kippur? Should I say rosh hashana? Should I say Passover?

Lots of articles, some useful podcasts from some of the pro-Corbyn commentariat on left antisemitism but three words noticeably absent from the debate. Jewish. Labour. Movement.

Also, the role new-left media has played in fostering an antisemitic culture has been overlooked 2/
Opposing left wing antisemitism means challenging parts of new-left media where anti-Jewish bias is prevalent. There's just no way round this. Some specific examples: The Canary's been on a mission to normalise the Nazi metaphor with Israel. (Really helpful guys, thanks)
