Whatever the reason for “low Sunday” we gathered this morning with joy in our hearts to pray for the world. What a privilege that is, to join for a brief moment the continuous prayers of heaven for the world God loves so much he never stops laying down his divine life for it.
We beheld the risen Jesus with Thomas, we saw the wounds of God in the hands and ankles and side of the risen Christ, the one who authors and perfects our faith in the middle of all our existential doubts about God and ourselves.
We gathered at the table set in the world that is coming to this world, where something beautiful happens to bread & wine, where something ancient & ever-new happens for the world’s transfiguration, where a future governed by Love enters, where we eat and drink life without end.
To be the change you want to see in the world, to care for creation, to rescue the oppressed, to fly for justice like a sure and certain arrow, to love every human as God loves every human, to truly recreate, join yourself to God and to all humans in the Eucharist.
Then get to work as God’s ongoing incarnation—as the hands and feet, the eyes and ears, and minds and hearts, the courage and the patience of incarnate Love—in your corner of the planet.
No other divine and human partnership changes the world like the Eucharist. It’s not “going to church.” It’s going to the future and bringing resurrection life back to this moment we now inhabit before God’s glorious future arrives. It brings the kingdom of God.
