Oshane Ximines GIF thread right here, right now. He is a pretty easy evaluation and it's clear where his flaws are and where his strengths are. I'm excited about this dude. I watched Marshall, Liberty, Virginia Tech, and East Carolina. Most of the GIFs will be from ECU.
Let's talk about the BAD first. In this play as the EDGE he needs to set the edge in run support. He crashes inside and gives a huge lane for the RB. Oshane is very advanced in his football knowledge but he has one or two brain farts like this. Not a huge deal but it stood out.
The worst part of OX's game is that his get off and explosion are average and he doesn't have very good bend. Watch his get off vs the guy to the front of the play, #97. Roughly the same. OX got drafted, this other dude isn't.
The other part of OX's weaknesses is his bend. His "get off" was decent here but his bend was not natural. He has a tendency to rush way too upright and isn't a natural bender as a result. Hips and change of direction are stiff. Had 7.13 3-cone which isn't terrible but not great.
You see everything I'm talking about here: He's in a 2 point stance but stays way too upright, tries to explode to the outside but can't, and cannot bend in. Bad rep for sure.
Now let's talk about the GOOD. This dude is a technician in every sense of the word. Again, you see the poor bend but he has a nasty inside head fake before trying to get outside. Really active hands to prevent the offensive lineman from getting into his chest.
OX has two guys blocking him and he almost gets there. Watch his hands, he swipes once, then arms over to rip the OT away. So advanced and a thing of beauty to watch. He is CONSISTENT with his handwork. That's so important.
When I say consistent, I mean it. OX has a pass rush "plan" which a lot of prospects don't have. He says to the OT, "get your ass OFF ME" and gets it done.
Again, the timing and power of his punches is phenomenal. This time, he goes for a bull rush and gets his hands INSIDE of the OL's shoulders and essentially shoves him back. Timing, placement, and power. He's got it.
Whew. Not much to say here except that OT got whupped. Look at how fast his hands are and how harmoniously they work with his feet. He stops and wiggles inside and his hands are so fast, they essentially pat the OT on the back as he dives to make a great tackle on the runner.
HAHAHAHA. Damn. OX has POWER. Look, he's not as upright as he usually is and bulls the hell out of that OT into the QB. He's able to drive with his legs because he's bent down a bit more and shows off that strength. Also, his arms are inside the OL's shoulders again. Phenomenal.
We're going to end the GIFs on probably the play of the season for Oshane. Realizes he's not getting there, throws his arms up and makes an athletic play to intercept the ball. That flashes upside.
I think the beauty of OX is that he is going to be a high floor prospect. He appears to be very coachable and very, very smart. He flashes power and technique with some of the best hand work I've ever seen from a college prospect...and this is coming from a guy from Old Dominion!
I think his floor is somebody like Jabaal Sheard. If he pans out...and that's a big IF...his ceiling is someone like Ryan Kerrigan. They are very similar. Kerrigan might be a bit more explosive than OX is. He's got to stop being so upright because it gives away leverage.
I also think he should stay at his weight of 253. He's a good mover at that weight and I don't want to take away from his already average explosion to by having him gain weight. His run defense might not be the best.
I like this player a lot and I think he'll be active on game days as a situational pass rusher behind Markus Golden and Lorenzo Carter. If he pans out, he could be a starting ROLB by 2020.
