the same as most women are called on to do - which is to be a loving, strong figure for the people in your life
a good father if you have children
a supportive partner, a loyal friend
a responsible man who makes amends when he hurts people and who doesn't run away from burdens
whenever i see people talk about "it's so hard to be a traditional M man" i'm always like - look, nobody wants that!

being a silent, stoic provider who finds it easier to access anger than softness - is this traditional masculinity? KEEP IT
hmm. trying to think of fiction examples of good men

NOT romantic heroes. solid dudes who exemplify this
wow i googled it and got
SHERLOCK HOLMES
DARCY
ROCHESTER
JAMES FUCKING BOND

absolutely not!!!!
here's some decent ish blokes IMHO. they try to be good and learn and are strong role models

John Watson
Laurie from Little Women
Peeta from Hunger Games
Dickens' David Copperfield
Gil Blythe
Rat and Mole from the Wind in the Willows (don't @ me)
Laurie is definitely the weak one here in a strong field - he's a bit childish- but i respect him for falling for a woman that basically LECTURED him in a book

that's a rare literary twist
also seriously re-read the Wind in the Willows if you need a pick me up. it's a LOVELY book. so many tiny earnest animals trying to do right by each other :') kinder than human beings
