Science for the win. Someone told my daughter "every time you blink a bird dies." So I calculated the number of birds born per year per human and proved that if we blink more than 12.5 times a year then the birds would've gone extinct a long time ago, if it were true. 😅
2/ How: look up the number of birds, divide by the number of humans (it's ~50 birds per human) then look up the average bird lifespan (~4 y) and divide. That proves 12.5 bird births per year. So if you blink more than 12.5 times a year, bird deaths are faster than births. Q.E.D.
3/ It's a silly proof, but it's actually very powerful to do simple calculations like this in physics. One of my physics professors in grad school used to always say the most important thing is to figure out the order of magnitude, first.
