I am saddened by men saying nothing when other men abuse and belittle women. I’m saddened when they watch men talk over us, stake claim to our ideas and prioritize our male coworkers for promotion. When they make us the butt of their jokes and criticize us for being humorless. /1
I’m saddened when men watch other men sexualize us for their entertainment and to insult one another. When they see men catcall us or leer at us and look away. When a man won’t leave us alone and the best they can think of to stop it is to pretend we belong to them instead. /2
I’m saddened when men watch other men threaten their partners and joke about harming them. When they ignore how frightened those women look or the watery eyes and fingermarks on their arms. When they say it’s none of their business and a man runs his home as he sees fit. /3
I’m saddened that men are more likely to protect themselves and eachother than believe a woman was raped. When they justify nonconsensual behavior by blaming us for it. When they get angry over deprivation of what they feel is owed to them rather than deprivation of our rights./4
I’m saddened that if you ask a man if he’d rather live a woman’s life, he’d almost certainly say no, but still refuse to admit that although more is expected of us, we’re treated worse in nearly every aspect of society. I’m saddened that many men can’t even be bothered to care.//
