Some details that need to be corrected in this tweet (Thread)
The original Can US FTA is not NAFTA. The current US administration did not like NAFTA and renegotiated it to USMCA. In short - it’s not clear which agreement is meant.
As to harmonising currencies, courts and laws, the U.K. had a permanent opt-out of the Euro, the EU does not harmonise courts and as to laws...
... it is true that NAFTA doesn’t do anything remotely on the scale of the EU. But it does harmonise. See chapter 17 on IP.
As to most successful - strangely the claim seems to be entirely based on trade deficits rather than on what matters for FTAs: market access.
I am not arguing against NAFTA. Or USMCA. But if you move from the Single Market to NAFTA, that’s a hit to the economy. Maybe one you are ready and willing to take. But a hit nonetheless.
