THREAD: In Leaving Neverland and in media interviews Wade Robson claims that the reason why he filed a lawsuit against Michael Jackson’s companies is not money, but a desire to find a platform to speak his “truth” as loud as he had to suppress it for decades.
“I wanna be able to speak the truth as loud as I had to speak the lie for so long”, Robson says in the film.
On CBS Gayle King asks if he can still get money from his lawsuit.Robson:“In relation to me deciding to do the court case in the first place– it was all those reasons I spoke of, trying to find a platform. But that’s the thing. Trying to find what is the most powerful platform.”
In an interview with TMZ on May 17, 2013, after he first talked to the media about his allegations the previous day, Robson again states: “I’ve learnt that you cannot begin to heal from this until you speak the truth, speak the whole truth, and speak it as loudly as I spoke.”
The TMZ interview (BTW, look at how rehearsed he is):
The problem with this claim is that if things had gone according to Robson’s ideal situation, then he would not have had any platform to speak “his truth” loudly, since he initially filed his lawsuit under seal and also hoped that it would remain confidential.
In a May 2013 motion we read that Robson (Claimant) tries to be as “unobtrusive as possible in order to protect the privacy interests of DOES 1, 2 and 3”, ie. Michael Jackson and his two companies, MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures.
Moreover, in an e-mail that Robson wrote to his family the same day, he expresses that his lawyers “feel very good about this all being done confidentially for now, but there are no guarantees”.
Apparently having a platform to speak “his truth” and helping victims with his story was not quite the priority initially. It rather seems like they might have hoped for a quick, confidential settlement being thrown at him by the Jackson Estate.
However, when TMZ got wind of the filing on May 8 and published the news of it, Robson suddenly was all about speaking “his truth” as loudly as he could.
