That is also unlikely (@CER_Grant agrees with me); they don't want to risk a no-deal exit, or, indeed, to force us out at all
So I think most likely outcome is a further extension, which is why I think Brexit is probably dead

I ought to learn from this and test my current assumption that we're likely to stay in the EU
This depends on two things: 1. Corbyn won't agree a Brexit deal with govt; 2. EU will continue to grant extensions

Peterborough is a 2-way Labour-Brexit Party fight, so Lab were never going to make way for "independent" standing on Not Labour policy

1. While cross party talks rumble on in Westmin, some movement for @BritishInEurope and @the3million - after meeting with Brexit Sec and MP @AlbertoCostaMP , govt has promised to reply to Michel Barnier to ask for assurances on reciprocal rights
2. Costa says govt must 'insist on protection of 5 million people's rights in absence of withdrawal agreement being passed' - and he'll continue to press PM to write to Tusk to push heads of govt to get the Commission to carve out citizen's rights from rest of Brexit deal
3. Separately, sounds like cross party talks went better today - a long way off any breakthrough, and fair to say expectation is low that there will actually be a deal in the end, but mood seems better

EU leaders think it good idea to be in contact already now. PM doesn't have a good track record of performing 'on the night' at summits. She just spoke to Dutch PM Rutte. They'll talk again Weds morning before summit starts. Translation: No room for any more misunderstandings /2
EU leaders must come to unanimous conclusion on PM's extension request. But countries are divided. So Belgian PM has asked inner core of Most Affected Nations (affected by #Brexit ) eg Germany France, Netherlands to meet just before summit. An attempt to iron out differences /3

EU emergency #brexit summit 10 April will start 6pm in Brussels. The PM will be invited to ‘engage’ with the 27 EU leaders +inform them of her plans/requests. She’ll then like last time be asked to leave the room while the 27 try to come to unified position required by EU law /1
Leaders are divided. No one likes idea of long #brexit delay - if PM asks for it - and it only takes one country (France in frontline) to say no - as EU decision must be unanimous BUT /2
If the UK does as EU had requested and agrees to holding European parliamentary elections as a condition for being granted a longer #Brexit delay then it’s hard to imagine EU saying no. Even if the PM only presents a vague plan of what intends to do during longer extension /3

I would actually wager that May will try to sign up to something like the EU compromise in this piece in the end.
Whatever the spin on the deal that comes out, the unavoidable fact is that what the EU fundamentally wants out of the backstop is fundamentally out of line with the U.K. position.
