Okay so I’m leaving this website for a while but want to share some thoughts after talking to my comrades who approached in good faith.
1. I am sorry for the Warren comment. I said that out of anger for many Bernie supporters and just my notion that white saviors are harmful.
2. Y’all are right that Bernie being in office won’t change everything and probably can’t get a lot of things done politically but that having a socialist in office is good for the movement. Just as trump was good for advancing fascism through more than policy.
3. I never meant to imply that I think it is bad for there to be an influx of Bernie supporters or anyone for that matter. I want DSA to have tons of people. I simply want to talk about the glaring whiteness of our organization.
I think that we are getting more and more white people joining and we should have as many resources dedicated to equity, racial education, and dismantling white supremacy as we have for Bernie canvassing.
I think we need to have conversations about what it’s like to be a black organizer in a predominantly white organization and how hard that is. Also how do we invite more PoC into a white space in an equitable way.
4. I could have worded what I said a lot better and considered how sing or tweets looked when trolls/“comrades” cropped out the rest of the conversation.
Anyways, I’m really thankful for the dozens of people who reached out individually or online to support me and very grateful for that. Y’all give me hope.
Lastly, I’m just fucking hurt right now. These were supposed to be my comrades and I know I could have said things different but the snitch jacketing, boot licking, mean words, just hurt. I know a lot of people don’t know me but I’m not new to this. I’ve been on the front lines.
