US$ 3B SpaceX revenue a year at US$ 70M per launch on average would be ~43 launches a year. Yes, there other launchers and prices but assume all are all Falcon 9 and you get a sense of total addressable market. Total industry commercial launch now ~$6.2B breakingdefense.com/2019/05/usg-la…

Both Musk and Bezos must generate services revenues beyond launch to achieve their objectives.

Money, rocket launches and payloads are cheaper now than in the 990s. Many tradeoffs are involved in going to lower orbits. Watching them "operationalize" will be fun.

There is a suplus of launch capacity. Businesses will send payloads up on a space available basis. Its go time

The launch is scheduled for ~7:30 (PST).
I have been thinking about whether there is a business in operating a broadband LEO constellation since 1994. I can't imagine anyone has researched and thought about it more tham me. So this and OneWeb and Amazon's Kuiper, Telesat etc are fun for me to watch. It is happening.

Me : That depends on what the Gov wants. If the US wants to sacrifice future technological position to China in order to save a bunch of execs who can't adapt, gameplay or perform their role then it makes sense.
... personally, rather than handing the future to China, I would argue for execs of competitors learning to adapt, up their gameplay and perform their role rather than some Gov helping hand.
X : Can Amazon be defeated?
Me : Hmmm, I'm not keen on the defeat concept but certainly Amazon is vulnerable to better gameplay, better doctrine and unexpected consequences ... the same as anyone else.

Me : Does K8s focus and operate below the level of code? If the answer is "yes", then I don't care. I view every need to dive below the level of code as a bug not a feature. It needs to move up the stack.
The areas that interest me are Google Cloud Functions & Firebase etc or AWS Lambda and its range of events and services or Azure Functions and MSFT's suite of services. Every time I need to think about packaging formats and orchestration, I think "this system is broken".
It's like in the past where I used to build large databases ... I had to have think about the disk set-up, i/o reads and writes, the number of disk heads, optimisation of the query plan, the amount of memory caching, the structure of the index ... just to run a query at scale.

In January I was invited to attend Invest Malaysia. Organisers invited me for breakfast with Najib. I declined because he never says anything and I really wanted to sleep in an additional hour
They were insistent (largely due to poor response from invitees I suspect) because my firm is a large investor into Malaysian equity / bonds markets. I said OK as courtesy.
