1. The most obscene thing the GOP has brought: If rules dont have enforcement mechanisms, they are ignored. Hearings on a SCOTUS justice? "Make us." Stop emoluments violations? "Make us." Comply with court orders? "Make us." Comply with Congress oversight? "Make us." USA is done.
2...not every law and rule has a "and so you will go to jail" enforcement mechanism. There is an operational belief that the rules will be followed, and if they are not, the violators will be removed from power. Which means McConnell and Trump and Barr. The Founders never....
3...imagined there would be people in leadership positions who had so much contempt for the essence of our democracy - co-equal branches of government - that they would refuse to follow foundational rules, so they didn't add "if you dont do it, you will go to prison."

1. Whenever I hear the forced birthers talk about their moral superiority, I can only think of the time they tortured a child to death, then bragged about it.

It involved a woman with other children who was pregnant. She wanted another child. She was anti-abortion (no more.)....
2...then, in the third trimester, the doctor discovered that the fetus had an abnormality that would lead it to suffocate to death in the first few minutes of life. As doctors have told me, few types of death they have seen are on par with the horror and torture of suffocation...
3...the mother - like a mother who wanted to protect a child from harm - decided they needed to about the fetus so that it would not live a few minutes of life in abject torment.

But too late. The state (Indiana?) had adopted a law that took that decision away from the mother..

1. Hearing from an ornithologist raging about Trump's @POTUS latest lie, seeing "piles of bald eagles" next to wind farms. While, like most scientists, this guy knows that @GOP lie with abandon about science, this one is about something Trump lies that he "saw"...
@POTUS @GOP 2...Bald Eagles are territorial. In other words, they do not all fly in the same place, they keep their own territory. The only way there could be "piles" of bald eagles is if Trump carried dead carcasses from around many places and piled them up at the foot of a turbine....
@POTUS @GOP 3...on the other hand, in the texted words of this ornithologist, "You know why it’s illegal to kill bald eagles? Cause his people were MURDERING THEM. WITH GUNS." So why does Trump attack wind turbines? Same as always. Personal profit....

His dad, while deeply flawed, evolved into a huckster - didn't start out as one like Jr. But that these frauds could become the symbols....

2/ I disagree. Nationwide injunctions create far more work for the Justices. Whenever court of appeals declines to stay injunction, the federal gov runs to #SCOTUS for emergency stay. The Justices do not like these urgent matters, w/o the benefit of percolation.
3/ Moreover, there is little difference between parties asking SCOTUS to make an injunction "nationwide," and parties asking SCOTUS to affirm a district court's grant of a preliminary injunction.

DOJ has gone to #SCOTUS to try to stop discovery in the transgender military ban case that is proceeding in Washington state. supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/18/1… (h/t @lawrencehurley)
@ZoeTillman @lawrencehurley The docket no. is 18A276, and the application was submitted to Chief Justice John Roberts, who is considering such applications out of the 9th Circuit currently (since Kennedy resigned).
Update —> DOJ withdrew its stay request at #SCOTUS regarding a discovery dispute in the ongoing Washington state-based challenge to Trump's transgender military ban because the 9th Circuit granted a stay.

@SenateDems have done an about-face on Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s #SCOTUS nomination.

At first, they had no doubt he was anything less than an existential threat to the Constitution. If he were confirmed, they said, millions of lives would be lost...
Now, they are claiming we have no idea who Kavanaugh is or what kind of #SCOTUS justice he would be. Solving that mystery, they say, requires putting the confirmation process on hold while they access more than 1 million documents related to Kavanaugh’s service in the Bush WH.
This demand raises an obvious question: What is the point of this demand, since the Democrats making it announced their opposition to Kavanaugh before President Trump even announced that he was the nominee?

- Can a POTUS be subpoenaed? Can he defy one?
- Can a POTUS be indicted?
- Are there limits to the lawfulness of pardons?
- Can Congress impose limits on POTUS' authority to fire judges?

These are not just hypotheticals. These are all questions that have been raised by DOJ officials, Trump's legal team, or both.

There is a real — & growing — possibility that the fate of the Russia investigation could ultimately be decided by #SCOTUS.
