NEW: The White House asked Don McGahn twice in the past month to declare that Trump never obstructed justice. Their first request came before the Mueller report was released publicly but after DOJ gave a copy to Trump's lawyers. McGahn declined.

McGahn initially entertained Trump's request. But after the Mueller report was released, detailing all of Trump's efforts to obstruct, he declined. The report also included Trump's comments that McGahn leaked to the media to make himself look good.

Donald Trump Jr. agreed to a private interview in mid-Jun, with questions limited to about 6 topics, with the time no longer than 2-4 hours, according to a person briefed. Another person contested that the scope of topics had been limited.

Why is Don Jr calling the shots here? Why does HE get to dictate the parameters of the interview and the topics covered? This should be a public hearing with Don Jr answering questions for as long as it takes.
