The new McCarthyism comes to Harvard. The firing of Dean Sullivan reminds me of the bad old days when lawyers were fired for representing communists, gay people, civil rights demonstrators and women seeking abortions.

This may be the worst violation of academic freedom during my 55 year association with Harvard. Any student who feels “unsafe “in the presence of Dean Sullivan and his wife does not belong at a university.
“Feeling unsafe” is the new mantra of the new McCarthyism. It’s an excuse for firing anyone, from a Republican to a Muslim.
If the students who demanded the firing of Sullivan had been around in 1776, John Adams would have been fired as an author of the Declaration because he made them feel unsafe for representing the Brits accused of the Boston Massacre. Shame on these student McCarthyites.

What I said was that there are 3 broad categories of relevant motive:
1) pure national interest ( help the military)
2) pure corrupt motive ( get a kickback) And 3) mixed motive (help the national interest in a way that helps your reelection efforts )

I said that the 3rd was often the reality of politics and that helping one's own re-election efforts cannot — by itself— necessarily be deemed corrupt.
I gave as an example mixed motive President Lindon’s decision to send troops home from the battlefield to Indiana so that they would vote for his party. He genuinely believed that his party’s victory in Indiana was essential to the war effort, but it also helped him politically.

Warren doesn’t understand the law.
My former colleague, Senator Warren, claims she could not follow my carefully laid out presentation that everybody else seemed to understand. This says more about Warren than it does about me. (1 of 2)
She also willfully mischaracterized what I said, claiming that I spoke about “intent.” I challenge her to find that word anywhere in my presentation. I talked about the difficulty of discerning mixed motives. (2 of 3

If Warren knew anything about criminal law she would understand the distinction between motives – which are not elements of crime—and intent, which is. It’s the responsibility of presidential candidates to have a better understanding of the law.

Callie Crossley wants me to “be held accountable” because I represented Jeffrey Epstein and helped negotiate a deal of which she disapproves. This is McCarthyism pure and simple. 1/
She adds to her guilt by association by breathlessly declaring that I had a massage in Epstein’s home by an adult therapist? She omits to mention that this occurred years before anyone suspected Epstein of misconduct and that my wife and daughter both received massages. 2/
Are they also to be held accountable as guilty by association? Shame on Crossley for her anti-civil libertarian views. End/

The census is constitutionally-mandated to begin in April 2020, under Article I, Section 2.

Trump is asking if he can IGNORE the Constitution b/c he doesn't like a SCOTUS decision.
#RELATED: The Supreme Court ruled against the Trump Administration's proposal to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census...for now.

It would've led to a severe undercount, which would've rigged elections and resources in favor of white Republicans.
#HUGEWIN: The Trump Administration will begin printing the 2020 Census WITHOUT the citizenship question.

After missing their deadline, some feared Trump may actually try to defy the Constitution and the law.
