I’ve been saying for 3 years now—a US adversary that will provide a real, secure platform for free speech online could change American politics completely in 5 years.

This is a massive natsec vulnerability nobody thinks about when it comes to social media censorship.

Let’s say Putin decides to do it. He figures out how to guarantee complete freedom and transparency, and launches it with a massive PR campaign to get millions to register.

The platform doesn’t even have to harvest your data for it to be effective as a tool of disruption.

Imagine the goodwill something like this could generate for the county developing it, if done in good faith.

Let’s say some country decided it would make online freedom and privacy the issue it cares most about, and becomes a refuge for people who care about it.

Because here’s the thing—a huge number of Americans will be more favorably disposed to a foreign power that makes it possible for them to (a) express themselves freely and (b) not have to worry about deplatforming or tech company bullying.
