Not sure which agricultural products he's talking about, but we have an oversupply of soybeans and we're heading there on corn. Poor & starving nations don't have robust livestock industries so I'm not sure how this is supposed to work. People don't eat corn/soybeans.

On Friday @CMEGroup & @CFTC allowed a 468 contract block trade in March #wheat futures @ $4.39 &was reported one hour after the market closed

That was 48% of the OI & 27% of the ttl volume

The Low was 4.405 so this trade was outside the range
@CMEGroup @CFTC The March wheat contract is in delivery. This happens 5 times a year and it's the ONLY TIME that futures are directly tied to the physical commodity. This is the backbone of the entire grain ag market. every trade during delivery can result in the ownership of the physical
The futures trades during the 15 day period signal to the world what the true value of the physical commodity is. Too much supply deliveries are made and the futures contract in delivery moves independently (no daily price limit on cks in delv).

This is important for EVERYONE

Hey @CMEGroup How do you justify a #wheat block trade that is 12c above the market????

The market opened at 5.53 at 7pm CST. by 8pm CST it was trding 5c lower and never looked back.

How is this even remotely legal @cftc?

If the @CMEGroup is allowing someone to trade futures in secret away from the public that trade 12c HIGHER than the actual market how would you feel?
@CMEGroup @CFTC I bet you'd like to sell your new crop wheat there right? Especially after the huge run up yesterday.

But since the @CMEGroup allowed this buyer to transact in secret with a buddy of his you'll never EVER got the shot.

All so the @CMEGroup can make an extra $1/side on comish

1. A thread on #trade and aid.

One of the first tangible benefits of #Brexit I've seen is the emerging reform of @DFID_UK where it is becoming more of an arm of trade policy than a state owned humanitarian NGO. I would like that to go much further and rethink trade.
2. I do not think we should be wasting too much effort on free trade deals largely because they are of questionable value and encourage inefficient value chains. Any work on tariffs should really be reserved for multilateral activity.
3. Instead we need DfID as the spearhead of our trade policy. There is no reason why we cannot pursue humanitarian goals and enhance our trade while we are at it. For a start we can do a lot with medicines and pharmacy products.
