Hi all! We’ve gotten an increase in followers with everything going on in the fight for #reproductivejustice lately so we figured we would make a thread explaining who we are, the work that we do, why it’s all so important, and what YOU can do to help! #FundAbortionBuildPower
When folks say abortion funds aren’t new to abortion bans and anti-choice laws they’re right. CAF has been around for OVER 30 YEARS and we aren’t the only abortion fund either! Check out @AbortionFunds to see a list of our sister funds across the country that help to #fighttheban
For over 30 years, we have provided financial, logistical, and emotional support to folks needing assistance paying for an abortion. We boldly affirm a person's right to choose whether to parent or not and that right should not be determined bc of age, race, economic status, etc.
Most people have heard about the #abortionbans in states like Georgia and Alabama and that affects us, too. CAF is funding more callers from out of state as other states pass more restrictive anti-choice laws. We are truly a resource for the Midwest and the entire country.
Because of the #hydeamendment passed in 1976 federal funds cannot be used to pay for an abortion, except for extreme and life threatening circumstances. This means that #abortionfunds like ours do A LOT of hard work to make sure we can help fund as many abortions as we can.
Abortion is not shameful. Abortion is healthcare, and EVERYONE deserves the right to make the best decision for themselves when it comes to their health. #Reproductivehealth and #reproducticejustice are important to individuals and communities. The personal really IS political.
So what can you do to make an impact? Easiest way is by donating to your local #abortionfund. Funds that really need it right now include @YellowFund, @ARC_Southeast, @WHOohio, and @PretermMAML. Don’t have the funds? That’s ok and understandable! There are other ways to help.
Reach out to your local abortion funds and ASK THEM what they need. For instance, CAF can always use more volunteers to take potential grantees’ calls on our helpline. Donating your time is a great alternative if you’re not financially privileged enough to make a donation.
Can’t donate your time? SPREAD THE WORD. Have hard conversations with your conservative relatives about abortion! Share abortion funds’ links with folks who CAN donate. Together we can #destigmatizeabortion, and when we destigmatize abortion we make it more accessible for folks.
This isn’t the time to feel hopeless and lost, this is the time to organize and fight back. Abortion funds have been helping people navigate access to abortion care for decades and we sure as hell don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. #fuckyourabortionban
