Of all the Brexit tropes the idea that no-deal means certainty must be one of the most inaccurate.
Will no deal bring certainty to importers or exporters? Hardly, WTO isn't a rule set for that, so they'll be subject to whatever national authorities in UK or EU or elsewhere decide to do until we have an agreement.
Will no deal bring certainty to Northern Ireland? Not at all, expect a period during which there are all manner of schemes and arguments about how to manage trade there in line with no border and international rules. It'll probably end up looking like a backstop...
Will no deal bring certainty to those from the EU who work in the UK and vice versa? Not at all, work permit rules are far from defined and far from clear.
Will no deal bring certainty to UK farmers? Not in terms of the tariffs or regulations for exports, domestic changes that may accompany leaving, or labour they use from around the EU
Will no deal bring certainty to our international relations? It will leave us almost certainty scrambling for new agreements with US that may affect our future EU relations,
Will no deal bring certainty to Scotland? One can expect a demand for a referendum, and this time independence may well win. Despite that the SNP doesn't in fact support no deal...
Will no deal bring certainty to your shopping? The supermarkets are hopeful but not certain that supplies will not be affected.
Will no deal bring certainty to investors in the UK? Well they won't know what our future trading relations will be, so hardly.
No deal actually provides the maximum possible uncertainty for the UK. Outside the propagandists on both sides nobody actually knows the impact, including Government, analysts, and indeed me. So why do we keep hearing this nonsense? /end
