This is a bonnkers article about the President's 2nd favorite TV network, OANN.

Here's the galling thing though...all of this has been completely obvious since before Trump took office. It's like watching a VERY slow motion train wreck of propaganda unfold in real time.
It's been clear from the beginning that OANN is Trump's safety blanket/back-up plan if Fox goes rogue.
The first time I became aware of OANN was August of 2015 when they were going to host a blockbuster interview between Sarah Palin and then-candidate Trump. I tried to watch. Their website was broken.
With our friend T*mi L@hren trending, it's also worth remembering that OANN is the network that launched her career back in 2015.

This milkshake/Farage episode got me thinking about the American Revolution, tarring & feathering, and the messy ways in which communities establish boundaries of acceptable political speech. Here's a thread on that topic, inspired by the Northam episode.
tl;dr. Throwing a milkshake is a political act, just as tarring and feathering was. It's also illegal. It's also fairly harmless. Engaging in politics outside the formal halls of political power is complicated. Here's that thread in a more readable form. threadreaderapp.com/thread/1091708…
And BTW, it's worth noting that Northam did NOT resign. Crowd actions (like tarring and feathering in the 18th century or Twitter mobs in the 21st) often do not bring about the change they seek. The mechanisms of change are complicated and unpredictable.

3. In response to a question noting how Reagan deployed racially coded language about welfare cheats and "big strapping bucks," Sears says Reagan was more naive than racist. He just said what worked, and Sears himself claims to have abhorred such language.

Oh, and also, our isolationist President who is a strong believer in national sovereignty says that we may need to wipe a country comprised of 80 million people off the map. You know, just as an isolationist who believes in sovereignty would do.
But in all seriousness, let's just pause for a second to note how bonkers it is that the President of the US is giving granular editorial advice to the television news station that already slavishly echoes his administration's talking points.

Quite often, I find myself thinking about the social norms that have been established on twitter over the years (perversely, most commonly in "anti-abuse" circles) which seem to serve no purpose but to cause horrific harm to innocent people while insisting it's for their own good
I'm bringing this up tonight not because any recent incident I've experienced or witnessed brings it to mind, but because I can't actually recall seeing any of these toxic behaviors playing out recently enough to merit a discussion of them, which hopefully means I can get into it
without having to worry MUCH about, well, the first point on the list here:

You can see here that as soon as I called him out on it, he changed his bio and picture. He claims that he was a huge Trump supporter up until today. . Here's the thing though, he just joined twitter this month. Obvious liberal pretending to be a fed up Trump supporter
