Here are some results from a qualitative sentiment analysis of the posts and comments on GovernEye during the election season performed by our AI system. These are meant to be used for anecdotal purpose only to understand high-level trends.

The data set consists of user activity between 5 pm on Mar 10 (when polls were officially announced) to 6 pm on May 19 (when polls officially closed) and it takes into account activity of those users (4,27,508) who logged in at least 3 times during this period.

Around 38% of the content uploaded was removed because they contained foul language or personal attack. Content was removed on an average in 2 min and 51 seconds. Close to 60% of the foul language and personal attacks were from UPA supporters.

NDA supporters typically refrained from using foul language or personal attacks in their content after 2-3 rejections. UPA supporters typically had many more rejections and they were typically spread out over their entire usage period.

On March 10, there were 6% more NDA supporters than the UPA though the lead was a lot more earlier. The horrific Pulwama attack caused a gradual reduction in the gap. By the time the BJP released their Manifesto the UPA and NDA were neck to neck in terms of supporters.

Emotional support for @narendramodi did not change during the period. It seems like users had made up their mind to either support him or not support him much in advance and nothing could change their minds.

Emotional support for @RahulGandhi increased considerably during the period. As the election progressed, negative emotions for him by many users slowly changed to neutral emotions and in some cases changed to positive emotions.

No. 1 reason why UPA supporters felt @RahulGandhi could lose the elections: EVM hacking

No. 1 reason why NDA supporters would never support @RahulGandhi: Lack of experience

No. 1 reason why UPA supporters would never support @narendramodi: Crass language

2% of the content uploaded was removed because of copyright violations. Top 3 beneficiaries of those removals were videos of @abhisar_sharma, @virsanghvi and @khanumarfa

And in the spirit of fairness, top 3 complaints our users had against us: No night mode, no way to change username and no support for emojis.

We're working on nigh mode, hopefully it'll be ready before our formal launch.

As for the other two, they're not really on our radar :))
