In the no-fault “compromise,” healthcare execs have wins & losses, insurance execs have wins & losses, trial lawyers have wins & losses. And they’ll all be just fine.

But the most vulnerable - the catastrophically injured - ONLY have losses. 1/
Today I voted for those accident victims, and I spoke about that on the Senate floor two weeks ago. 2/

This compromise strikes out on protecting essential coverage, providing lasting rate relief, and ending redlining. 3/
❌ COVERAGE: The lifesaving insurance that auto accident victims need may collapse when people leave it.

People who choose less coverage don’t also get to choose which accidents they get into. Coverage shouldn’t be compromised for those who need it. 4/
❌ RELIEF: The rate relief is not on your FULL bill, only the PIP line item. And it’s not on YOUR full bill, only on the state’s average bill.

So if you live in metro-Detroit, this relief will save you a fraction... of a line item... of someone else’s already lower bill. 5/
❌ REDLINING: The bill will outlaw the zip code discrimination that keeps rates in certain areas high. But it will allow territorial zones to exist to keep rates in certain areas high.

Territorial zones... kinda like... zip codes. 6/
❌ PROCESS: This is the 3rd time in 3 weeks that roughly 100 pages of no-fault changes were written overnight & only released for public vetting a few hours before a vote.

It will impact just about everyone in MI, and only had one 47-minute committee hearing 2 versions ago. 7/
