This is lesson I'm giving here, I would never give in class. Because universities are still stuck in the 90s.

What is happening with #competencybasedcurriculum is the transfer of the education system from disciplinary power to governmentality.

Thread.
Displinary power is the way GoK controls you using institutions like prisons and schools. They tell you when to wake up and when to sleep, when to eat and when to play.

Governmentality is when the GoK controls through your life outside those institutions, like in your family.
GoK tells you how to be a parent. It no longer gives teachers a syllabus - it even tells us how to teach and demands a lot of paperwork to prove that we taught exactly the way people in Jogoo house said we should. Hence they demand printed evidence that your kid made a sandwich.
A detour here: For more on displinarity and governmentality, google or youtube Michel Foucault. You guys are lucky, you have the internet. There are even cartoons on youtube that explain this for you.
Back to the lesson: With governmentality, GoK no longer needs a cop or headmaster to tell you Kenyans what to do. It now controls you through your parental relationship with your children, so that now, you do what GoK wants without being forced to do it by a cop or a headmaster.
You obey GoK because it has organized your life in a way that it leads you to want to obey the state it.

With 8-4-4, the state taught subservience through boarding schools, exams and access to the next level of education. The kids were held in capitivity by schools.
The process barely involved parents. You gave your kid busfare to go to school, paid the fees, and visited them. Your role was voluntary and decided by you. But that also meant that kids had their own say in schools. And when they did not, they created fracas - to put it mildly.
Disciplinary power was not sustainable for our incompetent state. One, the kids are woke. They live in the era of the 2010 constitution and the internet. I can bet you that the consciousnessness of a Kenyan 14-year old is way, way, way ahead of a Kenya government bureaucrat.
Our kids are not ahead in knowledge (content). They're ahead in consciousness (a way of thinking). Schools are becoming unmanageable because the education system's consciousness is still Lord Delamere-ish, and kids know better. They've got the internet and the 2010 constitution.
Two, disciplinary power is not politically sustainable, because more Kenyans want to advance in education, and want economic opportunities. But GoK doesn't want to avail resources for education, because politicians need to eat our taxes to have enough money to compromise us.
And the political class too stupid and incompetent to have a *ing clue on what to do with the economy. But it needs to look like it is trying.

So what happens?

World Bank comes and tells GoK: "we know you guys have a problem with your "youth bulge." It's our problem too."
World Bank: White supremacy can't have too many educated n----s around the world. And you guys can't stay in power either. So here's what you do. Implement an education system that controls kids and parents from home."

GoK: yes massah. We need to be the head n----s in charge.
And so we get #competencybasedcurriculum, which now dictates even ordinary behavior, from putting on socks and shoes, to making and eating a sandwich, to shopping. And worse, you parents WANT to do this for government. You feel like it's you in charge, when you're really not.
The costs of color printing and 200 bob shopping are nothing compared to your loss of control. You may like making a sandwich for your kid, and taking a photo and printing. But fact remains: you don't have a choice NOT to do it, because your kid needs to remain in school.
Congratulations parents. You are no longer thinking like parents but like a government. You have govern-mentality.

In 8-4-4, we were lambs being led to the slaughter. In #competencybasedcurriculum , we are taking ourselves and our children to the slaughter.
What is frustrating is that this difference is so subtle, most of you are probably telling yourselves: it's not a big deal to be forced to do what I like to do for my kids anyway.

Well actually, it will be a big deal for your kid. Ngojeni teenage ifike.
You'll sound like a robot. Your kids will ask you: who are you, actually? Is it you or the government talking? Are you my parent, or is the teacher my parent? Or is it government? And they will either rebel or get depression. And GoK will put YOU in jail for your kid's behavior.
You can see why @DCI_Kenya has become belligerent, spitting hashtags like #ifikiemastude. They know that their work is shifting to the families. That's why they now need to talk directly to your kids and bypass you the parents. As evangelicals cheat you about the nuclear family.
Resistance to this? I don't know. Especially because you educated Kenyans don't do philosophy or psychology, because Lord Delamere told you that these subjects dont build bridges or roads. So you parents are unable to understand how you are being manipulated by CBC.
Any time GoK, or your boss, tells you to do something you would have done anyway, be suspicious. And stop doing things automatically like a robot. If an institution is not doing what it should, you are human. Read context and decide what action to take. Hence #sadakaboycott.
