The single market and customs union mean free flow of goods between the UK & continental Europe.

We know it was a surprise to Domimic Raab but this means we have fresh food all year round (grown on our side of the world rather than air freighted in)

Tonight begins the Jewish festival of Pesach (Passover) which commemorates the ancient story of the Israelite ‘Exodus’ from Egypt. It’s a fab 7-8 day festival the highlight being a festive meal where the themes of slavery and freedom are explored (a ‘seder’)
The Seder is full of ancient symbolism and is designed with children in mind, the focus being on questions and discussions about the themes. It’s usually a mix of unruly, emotional and invigorating, partly depending on how young the kids are! We have 11 under 10 at ours so... ☺️
The other important custom during the week of passover is many Jewish households stop eating bread and any food that rises when it’s prepared. Many Jewish people change their crockery/cutlery which is a bit mad but helps to distinguish the festival from other parts of the year

Freedom of Movement: we can control who stays after 3 months. We've always been able to but successive governments have chosen not to. FoM means we can quickly fill skills shortages in the NHS, teaching, research, hospitality industry, construction, agriculture.
Freedom of Movement also means we can fall in love with whom we like and not worry about being able to get visas, and know that our children are safe in their family home, be it in the UK or another member state of the EU. #LoveEU #Reasons2StayInEU
Freedom of Movement helps us with aged parents or relatives who live in another EU member state but who we need to care for, knowing it doesn't matter about health bills as the EU deal is reciprocal. #EU looks after our health and wellbeing. #Reasons2StayInEU.

OK, that prologue. It's *NOT* a vision of a better life for Luke. It's a warning from the Force, which has used a dream to slip through Luke's defenses. In both dream and reality, Luke's life is seemingly tranquil but evil is ascendant everywhere else in the galaxy.
Why start there? I wanted to open with Luke and step back in time; to be in Luke's head in a way that would be harder later, when we're exploring Rey's story and he's a mystery she's trying to solve; and to introduce the idea of the Force as almost a character in its own right.

I understand a draft text worked on by EU and UK negotiators late last week included a proposal for Britain to remain in a customs union with the EU, in order to break the deadlock over the Irish backstop - but there was no time limit.
The draft also watered down references to NI being part of the EU’s customs territory. However, NI wd still be part of the single mkt for goods under the backstop.
Not clear if new clauses on a time limit were included over the weekend. It sounds like they weren’t, hence no deal this evening.

tonight’s albemarle county school board meeting will not include any (sanctioned) public comment. the last meeting was dispersed by police after being called off during the first public comment.
