The officer resigned. Atkinson should still bring a complaint against the police department and the university for failing to ensure his safety.

Side note: Naropa University is a Buddhist-inspired private liberal arts college founded by Chögyam Trungpa and named for the 11th C. Indian Buddhist sage Naropa. Ironic, to say the least, that white cops would choose to trigger a heated and nearly violent conflict on its campus.
This, via @Ava, in Arkansas: a cop with gun drawn comes to a young Black man sitting in his car, tells him to turn off the engine. The man holds his hands up and refuses to do so, knowing any move will likely result in him getting shot.
