1. The Washington Post picked up popular.info's report on @ATT, @Walmart, @pfizer, @LillyPad, and @Aetna collectively donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to the politicians who passed abortion bans in 6 states washingtonpost.com/business/2019/…
@ATT @Walmart @pfizer @LillyPad @Aetna 2. One thing that is fascinating to me is that five of the companies refused to comment. It's one thing to ignore me, an independent journalist. (Maybe it'll blow over?) But it's another to ignore thousands of customers and one of the nation's biggest papers.
3. Corporations don't want scrutiny on their political spending. That's why I do the work that I do. Reporting may convince these companies to rethink their behavior.

4. The one company that did respond to the Washington Post was @Aetna, who donated $26,600 to politicians responsible for abortion bans in 6 states.

"Aetna made donations across the political spectrum and to elected officials from both major parties"

5. This is a common defense by corps. Money to say, Steve King, is canceled out if I also give some money to a Dem.

But it doesn't work this way. @Aetna is helping the politicians who passed abortion bans stay in power. This is true no matter who else you give money to.
@Aetna 6. The idea that @aetna gives roughly equally to both parties is also not true. In the six states that passed abortion bans, Aetna has given $211,000 to Republican candidates and $18,550 to Democrats.
