We can rant and scream and tear at our hair over Barr's lies and failure to uphold his oath. But absent impeachment, he will get his way. He knows it. And he knows that so long as McConnell won't convict...the House won't impeach.
This is hardball and America is going to lose and Trump and the Russians are going to get away with it all absent a major change in strategy from the Democrats. (Which would center on proceeding with impeachment hearings to win the case in the court of public opinion.)
Either way...the secret is going to be winning in 2020. If Trump wins in 2020 and these guys have the ability to truly institutionalize their disregard for the law and their corruption, it may take decades for US democracy and leadership to recover...if it ever does.

I believe Trump should be impeached. I believe Barr should be impeached. I believe McConnell should be impeached. I believe Jared and Ivanka should be stripped of their security clearances and fired. I believe Trump Administration officials who ignore subpoenas should be jailed.
I believe the Second Amendment does not confer to anyone who is not a member of a well-regulated militia a right to bear arms. I believe that the richest Americans should be taxed at Eisenhower Administration level rates.
I believe that presidential elections should be publicly financed. I believe that election campaigns should be limited in duration. I believe that dark money should be outlawed and that Citizens United should be reversed by whatever means necessary.

I was in Tiananmen Square 30 years ago...in the days before the massacre. And I will never forget the air of hope and celebration in the place as party members and young people spoke out for freedom. They were brutally put down. Decades have passed.
But I don't believe their dream is anywhere near dying. You could not have been there for days as I was & not come away infused with hope & a sense that given their opportunity, the people of China would remake their country into an even more remarkable place than it already is.
In the 30 years that have followed, China has soared and prospered in countless ways. But the freedom those protestors sought has become even more elusive. Still, in all my many visits to China since I can't help but believe that spirit remains and ultimately will triumph.

The most serious betrayal of the United States by a senior pubic official since the Civil War took place in full view of the public and was confirmed by a thorough investigation. That is what history will see--a corrupt president betraying his country.
And our tortured semantic and process debates about how to handle this will seem absurd in the face of those facts. Some of that is due to efforts to pervert the narrative to protect the president. Some of that is due to institutionalism run amok. Some is just feckless.
But the facts won't change--whether the president acknowledges them in a Tweet or not, whether Robert Mueller floats hides an indictment behind a memo and punts the responsibility for acting on it. What remains open and will be closely scrutinized not only by history...

With regard to Trump/Russia & #impeachment, here are things that remain true:

1/ Trump’s surrogates, both in & out of the campaign proper, had many, many, MANY illicit meetings with Russians. One of the meetings took place at Trump Tower & included Trump’s son, son-in-law, & campaign chair, who hosted the sit-down with known Putin assets. Collusion? Da!
2/ Trump’s entire time in office has been one long obstruction of justice operation. Indeed, obstructing justice is the only thing he’s been successful at.

#IMPEACHMENT IS **NOT** JUST ABOUT #MUELLER

Donald Trump has violated his oath to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

He has done so by repeatedly attacking the free press as "enemies of the people," a direct subversion of the First Amendment.
The sycophants cowards, and right-wing extremists of the GOP will never have the courage or principle to follow in #JustinAmash's footsteps. And sad to say, the Democratic Party leadership is still dithering, refusing to do their constitutional duty.
So has anything changed today or is #impeachment still on hold? And if so, WHY?

Expert tip 2: Barr is apparently daring Congress with idea it needs to start impeachment proceedings to qualify for the other provision. Lederman's analysis shows that's false.
