1/ SOME IMPORTANT REMARKS ABOUT PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES:
* They can't share their true stand on most controversial matters (nor that of their best analysts). That would make them either incomprehensible or highly rejected. Reason: the "mass" is predominantly:
- relatively authoritarian (scores high on authoritarianism scale)
- highly uninformed and uneducated
- scores really low on basic logic operations
* Individuals who score too high on certain personality traits associated with honesty cannot and will never be candidates
3/ (they may be consultants, though, and a smart liberal candidate would hire precisely that individual)
* During the campaign period and certainly during their mandate, executive office holders WILL compromise on issues that would be abhorrent to their base.
4/ This is inevitable and it's part of their job. It's impossible to explain that to the masses. But then again, I'm not writing to the "masses", am I? All of them did. Some of us know what and know the brokers of (very) shady agreements.
5/ There are some sayings that you hear at the doors of hell of an electoral campaign office:
"someone has to do the dirty job"
"you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs"
"to get the job done, you need to accept to get your hands dirty".
6/ In one specific (very liberal) campaign, I was asked, by the campaign director, this question: "are you ready to let go of your scruples?" I had great respect for him and vice-versa. I had just developed a new real-time analysis system. I said "Not yet. Probably never"
7/ Here I am, $180K poorer (actually... broke) but my "scruples" are virgin. Am I better than those who took the job? Nope. The job needs to be done, just not by folks like me. You should understand that someone will always do the dirty job and there is always a dirty job.
