the left needs to be studying katrina. as climate breakdown progresses, katrina aftermath will become the normal state of affairs. we need to be preparing for this.

current models show a 20% overall decrease in hurricane frequency but a 45% increase in frequency of the most intense (category 4 & 5) for just the *early* 21st century. katrina will literally happen more frequently, but it's generally instructive for all state disaster response.
the aftermath of katrina makes it clear:
1. the state will suspend due process, habeas corpus, etc.
2. the state and the rich will hire and deputize paramilitary forces
3. militias will form, and many of them will be white supremacists

i'm not learning how to use firearms because i dream of fighting a glorious revolution. i encourage firearms training because when climate breakdown advances, i want my neighborhood patrolled by a left militia, not a white supremacist one, which will be the result if we don't.
this is weird conspiracy theory prepper bullshit. this is a sober assessment of existing best-case climate models paired with a dive into the factual but often ignored history of U.S. disaster response. we can decide to be ready, or we can ignore it and be overwhelmed.

it’s also worth noting that not every category 5 will be become katrina, as the circumstances (the levees, the geography of new orleans, etc.) are fairly unique, but that said: the frequency of crisis under climate breakdown will also greatly influence the reaction of the state
not to mention that it’s local police, private paramilitary, and white supremacists militias that are much, much more dangerous in these situations than the federal government
