Despite this, some still carried on with the iftar to celebrate the true spirit of Ramadan
June 2017: Masjid Abidin, known better as Masjid Putih in Terengganu organized an “Iftar Muhibbah” reception for 50 non muslims to foster interfaith rapport with the non-muslim community.

June 2018: Masjid Al-Faizin, together with the Archdiocesan Ministry of Ecumenical & Inter-Religious Affairs, KL got together & organized an interfaith buka puasa event to share in the spirit of Ramadan
Muslims, Catholics, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs & Taoists gathered together at the mosque, with the aim of bringing the community closer together.

It is also interesting to note that members of the Masjid will also visit the Churches when they have their annual family days
June 2018: A Church in Petaling Jaya organized an interfaith buka puasa event last year.

Organized by Yayasan 1Malaysia & Church of the Assumption, the event involved an interfaith forum as well as the cooking and distribution of bubur lambuk to nearby residences.

Some of them described the iftar as an “eye opening” event & it was their 1st time entering a mosque.
December 2018: Members from Perkasa, PAS, JAIS & ABIM were among the attendees of an interfaith Christmas dinner, organized by Christians for Peace & Harmony in Malaysia (CPHM)
May 2019: Global Unity Network (Unity), headed by popular Muslim preacher Shah Kirit Kakulal Govindji organized a buka puasa event, where Muslims, Christians & other religious leaders came together to build a better understanding among them
Supported by “Christians for Peace & Harmony in Malaysia” (CPHM), several pastors joined Muslims in awaiting for the “Azan”, signalling the end of the day’s fast.

This was the 5th “Interfaith Buka Puasa” organized by Unity.
May 2019: Johor Bahru MP @akmalnasir attends interfaith buka puasa at a Sikh temple, Gurdwara Sahib, which drew criticism from many Muslims, including the Sultan of Johor
May 2019: An interfaith buka puasa was held at Masjid Kampung Tunku. Organized by Kampung Tunku ADUN Lim Yi Wei, the “Muhibbah Ramadan” event was held to foster unity amongst the community
June 2019: Masjid Jamek Sungai Gelugor organized their first interfaith Iftar last night.

Many who attended the event left with a feeling of gratefulness that Malaysia is peaceful enough to allow interfaith events in mosques and other places of worship.
What’s your take on Interfaith events (Buka Puasa, Christmas, Forums, etc)? Are we mature enough as a society to have them regularly? 🤔
