Why do I get the feeling that there will be some more 'excitement' on or across the borders before the year is out?
But the thing is that with a visible thappad - one that cannot be spun away or wished away - the enemy WILL have to react.
Because NOT reacting will be the end of him.
Heck, for a 'few trees bombed', he launched two dozen aircraft, shooting AMRAAMs with gay abandon, losing an F-16 in the process.
A small consolation was the IAF MiG 21 downed.
That it all happened over territory occupied by him was a boon in disguise, since he could very conveniently hide his own loss and go to town with visuals of Wing Commander Abhinandan.
Of course, the bumbling Propagandu-in-Chief ALMOST let the cat out of the bag by claiming three pilots, then two pilots, then one pilot dead in the hospital, before finally settling down for the party line - None of ours was shot down.
Well, so be it.
Remember, this from an army that has virtually ruled its country from its very first days.
An army which still claims it won the 1947-48 war, notwithstanding the fact that when the Indian Army came in, the only direction their men 'advanced' was back home!
An army which claims India initiated the 1965 war, with NO mention whatsoever of its misadventure in the Rann of Kutch, or Operation Gibraltar, or for that matter, Operation Grand Slam! An army that claims that 'All Was Well' till the Indian Army came calling on 06 Sep 1965.
An army which claims it won the 1965 war.
An army which claims it was the treachery of the Bengalis which led to the surrender of 1971.
An army which will NOT tell you about Operation Searchlight of March 1971 (Google it, wiki has some good info).
An army which will NEVER talk about the role of Zia ul Haq in the massacre of Palestinians during operation Black September.
An army which claims to its populace that it is contesting the Siachen Glacier with Indian army, when it cannot even SEE the glacier from its positions
An army that 'won' the Kargil War.
An army that successfully thwarted Indian 'designs' in Balakot.
An army which will, however, NOT tell you why it took them nearly two months to take journos to what was a 'madrassa, teaching Quran to Children' that the IAF had missed.
An army which will confidently tell you that they had absolutely NO idea that Osama bin Laden was living in luxury right next to its premier military training establishment for nearly one full decade.
And finally, an army that will go to ANY lengths to protect its myth of invincibility.
So much so that it practically forced the PAF to launch an ill thought out 'raid' within 24 hours of the Balakot strike.
Mind you, there was absolutely no thought whatsoever as to what might have been the aftermath had the attempted bombing of the Indian Army Brigade Headquarter succeeded.
Kargil redux, anyone?
Talking about Kargil, here's my ode to Musharraf
It was only thanks to the 'professionalism' of the PAF that things never came to such a point.
However, the Paki Army was able to spin the entire chain of events in a way that its already brainwashed awam swallowed it all, without any 'uncomfortable' questions.
Of course, a pliable media helped.
But coming back to what I said before - it only means that the next round will be well calibrated by own side in order to ensure Propagandu doesn't work.
How the enemy will react is anybody's guess.
And how will own side react to his reaction is anybody's guess too!
Bottomline: When you start believing your own propaganda is when a 'victory' of 1965 turns into a humiliation of 1971.
This time too, all this false front of bravado will come to bite him in the backside once the bluff is called, yet again.
The awam may not be as pliable the next time - not if there is just no way you can hide the visuals.
Dear Pakistan Army,
You've already made your bed.
Now prepare to sleep in it.
