Just a little thread of how you can be an LGBTQI+ employer all year round not just during pride...
When hiring staff and collecting the necessary data have options for GENDER beyond the binary, or leave the field blank for people to choose. Have gender neutral titles Mx or the option to have no title if preferred. Ensure your payroll service is informed of peoples choices.
Ask people what name they would like to go by, don't assume the one on thier ID is their chosen name.
Create a seating plan which has people's names and pronouns on and give this to new starters or freelancers. Explain pronouns to new staff or visitors so they understand, don't assume people will know they may need some help!
Don't assume anyone's sexuality nor pry people with questions, people's personal life is their business if they wish to discuss it they will.
Get all staff to put their pronouns in their signatures, and normalise asking peoples pronouns in the office and in professional workspaces.
If you work in a service industry DON'T gender your greetings, my personal cryptonite 'what can I get you ladies' ask your staff to use more inclusive terms like 'folks'.
Pay freelancers on time! Marginalised people face so many barriers, ensuring invoices are paid on time can actually make a big difference in people's lives.
Promote and share the work and services of businesses and freelancers from these communities, shout loudly about them, use your platform help them get work and make connections.
Uplift the voices of queer, trans and intersex people of colour. Make space and listen. Understand your privilege and use it to fight and speak out against racism, homophobia, transphobia, islamaphobia, and to fight for intersex rights.
Don't rely on your LGBTQI+ staff to do the educating. If you are aware of failures or gaps in your company culture invest in training and education from companies such as @Genderintell @stonewalluk
