Though you aren't wrong about Trump manipulating the media I think you may be downplaying the role of the internet, and social media, in the current political paradigm shift. It isn't just Trump, the whole world is moving to the right on just about every issue.
@drawandstrike My main contention for this is that the all-encompassing propaganda machine the left had built was largely made obsolete by the advent of social media.

Media, entertainment, education, higher education, bureaucracy, mainline religion all were militantly controlled by leftists.
@drawandstrike The result was decades of folks on the right who cut their teeth contending for their views in environments that were openly hostile to them.

Where as leftists sat privileged and protected from cross examination.

The right became battle-hardened.
@drawandstrike Once social media became the new public square all of a sudden leftists found themselves for the first time having to contend for their ideas in an environment that wasn't entirely stacked in their favor, and it hasn't been going well.
@drawandstrike They're accustomed to narratives being crafted for them, arguments being framed for them, verbiage being adopted for them, opposition being silenced for them. The result being a shallow and empty worldview built almost entirely on talking points.
@drawandstrike So when, for instance, a fresh new take-no-prisoners apologetic on life begins to take hold on the right it absolitely decimated the lefts's old guard talking points on "choice." Exposing that their argument literally has not advanced beyond talking points in 50 years!
@drawandstrike The result being biggest public opinion shift toward life since Roe V Wade.

That's only one example. The EU elections should clue us in that the left is having a difficult time contending in the age of social media. Even with their de-platforming crusades to aid them.
@drawandstrike The reason for this is that the Genie is already out of the bottle. Think of how many books and men alike Rome burned to keep the Bible from being translated into the common tongue. It was all in vain. Once the people knew the church had defrauded them, there was no going back.
@drawandstrike So the internet in our day is the Gutenberg press of Luther and Tyndale's day. They can burn the messengers all they want but once the message has been delivered, the dark ages are over and the enlightenment is on the horizon.
@drawandstrike I honestly do not see this as a pendulum swing. I think that's a very American-centric view to what is happening. If that were the case, then the same thing wouldn't be happening all over the world. What we are seeing is a political enlightenment. A return to decentralization.
@drawandstrike It certainly helps that the establishment's corruption, elitism, and general ineptitude has caused a level of social stress and disillusionment with the status quo among those who may not possess a logical and systematic worldview.
@drawandstrike But I believe that there are still a much larger number of politically conscious people all over the world then there used to be as a resilt of social media, and they are recognizing the dangers of concentrated power, and the kind of people who are attracted to it.
@drawandstrike I see the environment increasingly moving in a direction that the left will find very difficult to contend in unless they reform in a number of ways, and I don't see it reverting back until the memory of the battles we are currently fighting is gone.
@drawandstrike There is a reason "the left can't meme" became a meme.

It isn't cause we are inherently smarter then them, unlike the "elites" we must guard against such arrogance.

It is because the right has much deeper, consistent, and systematic worldview than they do.
@drawandstrike That, in my opinion, is because truth favors us. But it's also because we've been subjected to cross-examination and they, for the most part, have not. Iron sharpens iron.

The right is battle-hardened.

The left is soft, shallow, and unprepared to defend themselves.
@drawandstrike These clowns in DC are spending what precious political capital they have to try and rid themselves of Donald Trump as if that will solve all their problems and they can't even tell us what bathroom to use.
@drawandstrike I'll end with a video to illustrate my point. Gohmert asks this girl 4 times a very simple and logical question. She can't do anything but murmur talking points. This is who the democrats brought to testify in CONGRESS on behalf of "choice."

@drawandstrike Addendum:

I would also like to add that though we dominate the *argument* on social media, we do not dominate the numbers.

Twitter usage in particular is more prevalent among an urban socialite demographic rather than suburban or rural family demographics.
@drawandstrike I honestly believe this, and not partisan manipulation, is predominately why leftist hashtags and politicians are promoted here. They just receive far more interaction due to demographics and the algorithm accounts for that.
@drawandstrike That being said it means two things...

1.) We have more to gain than lose in terms of minds changed here.

2.) Despite having the numbers, their positions lack the intellectual firepower to compete with us on a level playing field.
