A lot of discussion as to whom should become Man United's new technical/sporting director. The way I see it, there is one man who seems like the absolute perfect fit. That is Jordi Cruyff. And here are some of the reasons why
First and foremost, being a director at a club is something Cruyff knows about. He has done so at AEK Larnaca and Maccabi Tel-Aviv. Larnaca made it to the group stage of the EL with Cruyff, while Tel Aviv were Israeli champions three times with Cruyff as their director
Cruyff would also understand the role that the manager has, considering he was the manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv himself after the spell as sporting director. They finished 2nd behind champions Hapoel Be'er Sheva. He appointed Slavisa Jokanovic and Peter Bosz as managers at Maccabi
The Telegraph wrote in an article that "United have been searching for someone to work alongside, rather than above, the manager and who represents a cultural fit and has a similar feel for the club as Solskjaer". Lets look at some of Cruyff's credentials in this regard:
Solskjær and Cruyff both arrived at Man Utd in 1996, and it has been reported several times in Norwegian press that the two were "best friends" during the time at Man Utd. So in terms of working alongside each other, there should not be any big issue
Cruyff was at Man Utd from 1996 'til 2000 (loaned out to Celta in 1999) and saw the changes at the club from Cantona until the Treble-winning side a few years later. You'd think he understands Man Utd, meaning he'd be the "cultural fit" they are looking for
Jordi Cruyff also has experience and ties to Barcelona and knows the Spanish league well. He has previously been linked with the sporting director job at Camp Nou. As a youth player, he was at Ajax. You'd think he knows how to develop youth and link it with the first team
Currently, however, Cruyff is managing Chongqing Dangdai Lifan in China. They are are 6th in the Chinese Super League. You would imagine Cruyff is paid handsomely at that job, but would the lure of going back to Man Utd and create a foundation trigger him? I wouldn't rule it out
In summary: Cruyff fills most of the credentials needed to take over as the technical/sporting director at the club. He has the experience in the job at other clubs, he has a great relation to Solskjær (that we know of), he knows Man Utd and he has the network to go along with it
