I adored following today’s anti-oligarchic putsch in Moldova not because I’m a European politics nerd (that too!), but also because it demolishes the tired, patronizing & neocolonial notion that every small country is just a subject in binary geopolitical battles of big states

The notion that the Eastern European politics is somehow existentially torn between Putin and the West was first invented by the Kremlin and has been recycled since then over and over again by lazy types of foreign analysis and journalism

Today’s Moldova drama, regardless of further development, also cool illustration that current political polarization we all suffer from doesn’t necessary mean eternal dysfunction for a democracy. Maximizing political compromises & short-term alliances can lead us out of this mess
