When Harper tried this same kind of attack it made us stronger. His mean spirited attacks on civil society, scientists, environmentalists & more, united diverse communities standing up for freedom of speech and a Canada we can be proud of. 3/
Yes philanthropic foundations from many places in the world fund work to stop the expansion of oil & gas & work to ensure strong climate policy. All over the world. Funding into Canada is very small compared to the rest of the world.
The majority of the funding for all of the environmental groups and Indigenous leaders working on tarsands and pipelines comes from thousands of Canadians not foundations

In the Harper era fundraising for tarsands & pipeline campaigns sky rocketed. Just like it’s starting to do again. Thanks Premier Kenney
The Tarsands Campaign has been led by indigenous leaders & Canadian environmental advocates & is more of a movement than a “campaign”. Thousands are standing up for a safe climate, economy & indigenous rights and will continue to even with decreased funding. Many are volunteers.
No one is saying shut the oilsands down over night. Yes the world uses oil but now we have the technology to use less & we need to stop expanding oil & gas in order to ensure a safe climate. Not just in Canada
Yes we use oil. People wore clothes made of cotton picked by slaves. But that did not make them hypocrites when they joined abolition movement. It just meant that they were also part of slave economy & they knew it. That’s why they acted to change system, not just their clothes.
Canada will move to a low carbon economy by design or by default. If we do it by design we can work together to make sure no one is left behind & we capture new & emerging markets & plane for cleaner, safer communities.
The @IPCC_CH reports calls for all countries and all industries to stop expansion of fossil fuels and begin now to reduce production & emissions & focus building infrastructure for electrification & renewables if we want a safe climate
Billions have been spent this year alone dealing with rising floods, fires & other extreme weather & the planet has only warmed 1 degree. We have a decade to transform our energy systems so that our kids have a livable world.
Using these precious moments to attack those advocating for change and spread misinformation and hate in order to continue to profit on fossil fuel expansion is irresponsible, unethical and immoral.
Yes I worked briefly w/ Alberta government, oil industry, First Nations, community leaders & unions to try & build bridges, find common ground & design policy. The fact that you are threatened by that @jkenney is very telling & sad. A good leader would encourage dialogue not hate
