I've never encountered anyone that voted Leave that I believed wld hv voted Remain if she'd expected No Deal at the time (whatever she says now). Such people surely do exist but I suspect their numbers are tiny - eg far smaller than those who voted Remain cos of HMT'S "RECESSION"
The notion "noone voted for no deal" is entirely a Remainer myth.
If we'd known during the euref that the EU wld demand NI & £40bn if we tried to leave, & the UK Remainers wld seek to overturn the vote, these wld hv bn strong - overwhelmingly strong - arguments for Leave & the Leave majority wld hv bn *much* larger.
The only pro-Remain argument that time has strengthened is the claim that the British Establishment is not competent to govern us without EU help. I admit that that has given me considerable pause for thought over the past year.

The notion a new Tory leader might be elected, but if that person cldn't command a majority in the Commons May might stay a while is...interesting...
Confidence for a new PM seems unlikely. It's tricky to believe any new Tory PM cld get a Queen's speech through, for example. If it included No Deal measures, anti-No Dealers wld vote it down. If it didn't include No Deal measures, pro-No Dealers wld vote it down.
The fact the opinion polls & Labour's recent performances in Wales & Scotland suggest Corbyn has no chance of forming a majority only makes confidence for a new Tory PM even less likely. Opponents of whomever it is can afford to risk a General Election.

Climate change mitigation's largely a busted flush. We simply aren't, as a species, going to stop the climate from changing no matter how many speeches David Attenborough or others give. We're going to hv to adapt. There shld be more debate & discussion of what's needed for that.
The responsible course of action for policymakers is to assume that the climate will change & to plan for what's needed to cope with (or in some cases - eg northern Canada - take advantage of) that. I'd like to see a national "Climate Change Adaptation Policy".
Now this already exists to some extent, but I hv in mind a major joint effort combining govt, business, households, schools, researchers etc. It'd be great if we cld, as a society, say "This is gonna happen, & here's what we're going to do to deal with or make the best of it."

What Varoufakis doesn't seem to grasp is that voters won't believe any General Election promises of the Tories after they so blatantly lied in 2017 & their leader lied so repeatedly & relentlessly thereafter. Tory election promises are utterly worthless. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/…
"So what way out is there for a Tory PM, then?" None. There's no way out for the Tories. They're finished. All we want from them now is a rapid recognition of that so their party can be folded up quickly & painlessly & get out of the way.
If there were a General Election, & a voter wanted No Deal, why wld she vote Tory - proven relentless liars on the EU, for decades, & with no chance whatever in the polls of winning - when she cld vote @brexitparty_uk & be absolutely certain her vote wld be respected if they won?

1) One of the most jaw-dropping discoveries I made while researching “The Autism Vaccine” took place in Austria. I was initially intrigued by the autism story when I realized that the first time aluminum had been used in a U.S. pediatric vaccine was 1932.

As a "contemptuous Remainer", may I assure you that I have considered the implications of "winning", as you put it, very carefully.
First, Remainers long ago gave up the idea of #Brexit being a winner/loser situation. They are all too fully aware that leaving/2

3/know only too well what it's like to have their vote ignored and their postal votes "lost" or maybe never counted. The BBC & other *impartial* media outlets name them persistently as #Remoaners, if mentioned at all. The PM referred to them as "losers" in the Withdrawal Bill. /4

I've been doing a bit of number crunching to see what date, with no-one changing their minds, demographics will show that the British people voted to remain. That date is 27th January 2021. On that date, the UK voted #Remain. (1/3)

1. Plenty of people are talking about the serious threat #Brexit poses to the economy as though remaining was an entirely consequence free decision. It certainly wasn't. By voting to remain we might very well have deferred one or two problems but they would only ambush us later.
2. For starters the stresses that led many to vote leave would still be present and would remain unaddressed. Had we voted Remain the establishment would have paid lip service to the losers but by now the referendum would be ancient history and theyd revert to business as usual.
3. And business as usual is exemplified by the Mayor of London whose top priority this week is to ban burger adverts on the tube. Nevermind the slow motion massacre on the streets of London. This is the bread and butter of the Westminster bubble.
