Astonishing that @OberlinCollege has an 887 million endowment and charges 70K for annual room, board and tuition. I'd like @BetsyDeVosED to publish endowments alongside tuition/room and board. How much of the much-discussed "student debt burden" ended up in the endowment funds?
Now if @ewarren suggested confiscating college and university endowments to pay of student debt, she'd have a nexus between the problem ---the debt-- and the businesses that created the problem.
Endowments appear to total around $550 billion: nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/disp… Total student debt about $1.5 trillion: forbes.com/sites/zackfrie… Of course colleges and universities have lots of assets in addition to endowments. Make higher ed disgorge illegitimate tuition gouging.
